After last weeks well deserved victory over Marist, Goole Twos were looking to cement their lead at the top of their merit table but news of a much improved Driffield outfit with some good recent victories under the belt meant this was always going to be a tough fixture.
It was the home side who were first out of the blocks with a well taken try down the right and a surprising lead. The visitors have not been behind much this season and they sprang to life replying with 3 tries through Brandon Harman, Ollie Marshall and Tom Green for a half time score 5-19.
The second half was more of a seesaw affair with Goole adding to their lead through Phil Jackson before Driffield replied with a try of their own. Tom Green then added his second before another Driffield score. Tom Green then finished the game off as a competition with his third for a 19-36 final score.
Driffield has never been a happy hunting ground for Goole teams so all in all a good result. In truth an inexperienced referee did little to help Goole’s style of open attacking play and in parts they got involved with an arm wrestle that didn’t match their game plan but they can all be pleased with their efforts.
Veteran Dave Walton had an inspired first twenty before the steam evaporated and Tom Green, Charlie and James Walton all had strong games. The back three behind the scrum all featured heavily and the MoM could have gone to either Brandon Harman or Jake Parkinson on the wings who were both strong in attack and defence. His hat trick and ball carrying together with this accurate line out arrows meant Tom Green took the award.
