The 2nd XV began their Merit League campaign with a 27-17 defeat away at Barton. An error strewn performance from both sides resulting in a stop start game with neither team managing to really get on top, Bartons heavier squad eventually pulling away in a game that Goole were always in, but lacked a bit of composure at crucial moments and that was enough to see them beaten. Goole’s points came from tries by Man of the Match Ollie Sugden, elder brother Oscar Sugden and Matty Retallic, Joe Grimbleby converting one.
Saturday sees all 3 teams in action for the first time this season, the top 2 in the league meet when Goole 1st XV travel to league leaders Old Brodleians, where one of the 100% records will go. The 2nd team entertain Beverley at Westfield Banks, whilst the 3rd team travel to Grimsby for their first competitive game of the season.
