
Goole 2nds signed off their pre-season preparations in style with a strong 29–10 victory over Beverley, producing an excellent second-half display to overturn an early Beverley lead.
The opening 40 minutes were closely contested, with both sides working hard but struggling to find a way through. Beverley made the breakthrough inside the first ten minutes, and despite plenty of effort from Goole, that proved to be the only score of the half.

Whatever was said in the Goole changing room at half time certainly had the desired effect.Goole came out with renewed energy and began to put Beverley under sustained pressure. The breakthrough came when Fenton crossed for Goole’s first try of the afternoon. Will Devenish added the conversion to put Goole ahead for the first time at 7–5.
Goole were now firmly in control and continued to turn pressure into points. Parkinson went over for the second try, with Devenish again adding the extras to extend the advantage to 14–5. The Goole momentum continued, with Matty Backhouse powering his way over for another try to make it 19–5. There was no let-up from Goole, and Rob Shand added a fourth try as the home side continued to dominate the second half, moving the score to 24–5. Goole saved one more score for the closing stages, with Kieron Sudden crossing to round off an excellent attacking performance. Beverley managed a late response with a try of their own, but it was Goole who deservedly took the honours, completing a hugely positive second half with a 29–10 victory.
Will Devenish was deservedly named Goole’s Man of the Match, combining a composed kicking display with an excellent all-round performance. Fenton and Donoghue also stood out with impressive contributions.
The result provides plenty of encouragement for Goole 2nds as they now turn their attention to the season ahead. After a productive pre-season, the squad looks ready for the challenges that competitive rugby will bring.
