Yorkshire Shield Semi-Final
Wednesday 18 February 2026 – Kick-off 7:30pm
Goole RUFC welcome Wath Upon Dearne RUFC to Westfield Banks this evening for what promises to be a memorable occasion under the lights, as the two sides meet in the semi-final of the Yorkshire Shield.
County cup rugby always carries a special significance, and tonight’s fixture represents a major opportunity for both clubs to move one step closer to lifting county silverware. With a place in the Yorkshire Shield Final at stake, there is everything to play for.
Goole missed last weekend’s game at Yarnbury as it turns out their all-weather pitch is not ‘all weather’ after all! Wath arrive buoyed by a close away win at Dinnington to take to the top of Yorkshire 1.
The Road to the Semi-Final
Both teams have earned their place in tonight’s contest through impressive performances earlier in the competition. Goole booked their place in the semi-finals with a convincing 54–31 victory over Hullensians in Round One, before progressing via a walkover against Wensleydale in the quarterfinals.
Wath Upon Dearne also demonstrated their strength early in the tournament, producing a dominant display to defeat Keighley 43–0 in their opening tie. They too advanced through the quarterfinals following a walkover victory against Bridlington.
With both sides arriving in strong form, tonight’s encounter promises to be a closely fought and competitive affair.
A Big Occasion for the Club
Evening cup fixtures under the lights always bring a special atmosphere, and the players will no doubt be relishing the opportunity to represent the club in such an important match. Knockout rugby often brings out the best in teams, demanding discipline, composure, and clinical execution.
For Goole, home advantage could prove crucial. The support from the touchline has been a major factor in the club’s performances, and the players will be hoping for another strong turnout to help drive them forward.
