On a bitterly cold, wet and windy afternoon an in form Goole side travelled to A Leeds Mods side who were on the up with 5 consecutive wins of their own.
Goole won the toss and elected to play up the considerable slope and found themselves camped deep in their own half, Rhys Moore's clearance kicks only providing brief respite until Goole gradually got going and a powerful midfield break by Jamie Shand was stopped by a high tackle just short of the line but quick recycling saw Rhys Moore dart over to score an unconverted try. 18 minutes and with Kyle Hall sent to the sin bin for offside, the hosts moved the ball wide and scored an unconverted try in the corner. With a man down in the pack Goole's scrum was under heavy pressure, conceding several penalties, Mods took advantage and several pick and drive saw them score another unconverted try for a 10-5 lead. Once Goole were back up to their full complement they began to work their way upfield and an excellent catch and drive from a line out 20 metres from the line saw Matty Tink Taylor crash over on 35 minutes, converted by Rhys Moore to take the lead 12-10. The resulting restart was returned with powerful runs from Almond, Taylor and the outstanding Jack Smith, resulting in a penalty converted by Rhys Moore for a 15-10 Goole lead at the break.
Goole came out all guns blazing in the second half and began to take control of the set pieces, especially the scrum and the front foot ball allowed the backs to be unleashed and when a break by Phil Neal was stopped just short by desperate Mods defence, recycled ball found replacement prop James Walton crash over from short range, not converted for 20-10. with the Goole forwards now dominant the y were rampaging upfield almost at will and one such surge saw Kyle Hall go over beside the posts, securing the bonus point, converted by Rhys Moore. In the final 10 minutes 17 year old Jack Smith was never far away from the action and one devastating run saw him combine with replacement back row Connor Walker to get Goole on the attack and quick ball saw Rich Barrass and Phil Neal link to release Tom Halliday to score the best try of the day for a final score of 32-10.
A superb performance on the road which sees them move up to second place in the league as Halifax vandals could only manage a draw at home to Wensleydale.
Saturday sees a week off for the firsts as their scheduled opponents Leeds Medics, have Uni cup commitments preventing them fulfilling the league fixture.
The second team are at home however in a friendly against Knottingley 2nd XV , kick off is 2.15pm
