Goole entertained mid table Stocksbridge, who had brought both their 1st and 2nd teams to Westfield, the hosts were looking to avenge their away defeat earlier in the season in atrocious conditions. The weather and pitch at Westfield was much more conducive to Goole's style of play and despite a promising start from the visitors Ggole took the lead when a break from player coach Will Turnbull was supported by Oscar Sugden who found Matty "tink" Taylor who scored atry in the corner converted by Rhys Moore. A few minutes later the Stocksbridge defence conceded a penalty under pressure and Rhys despatched the kick to lead 10 nil. More pressure saw an improvised try when Rhys chipped over the defence close to the try line gathered by Will Turnbull to score beside the posts converted again by Rhys Moore 17 nil. With the back rowers Edward Cranswick and Connor Walker causing havoc in both attack and defence, the visitors could not settle but it was just before halftime when Goole extended their lead, a scrappy line out was tidied up by Connor Walker who used his strength to force his way over from close range, the conversion just going wide for 22 nil. Stocks managed to secure the restart but a turnover forced in contact saw a long pass from Rhys Moore to Danny Holt whose break and inside pass saw Tom Halliday finish the move to secure the 4 try bonus point. The failed conversion was the last kick of the half.
Soon after the restart Tom Halliday added his second try when another flowing handling move released him down the right hand side to score in the corner. The visitors then had something of a revival when a catch and drive at the lineout saw them register an unconverted try for 32-5. Normal service was resumed shortly afterwards when Danny Holt took an inside pass from Will Turnbull to cross under the posts, the simple conversion added by Rhys Moore. As the game drew to a close there was time for another long range score, a quickly taken penalty saw the ball moved wide to Phil Neal on the wing and his chip over the fullback was gathered by Richard Barrass for the final try of the day, converted by Rhys Moore for a final score of 46-5.
Credit must be given to the visitors for bringing 2 teams despite having some regular 1st team players unavailable, but even at full strength would have struggled to contain a lively Goole outfit in this mood on a relatively firm pitch.
Saturday sees an away trip to Halifax for the firsts while the seconds host Selby at Westfield, support for both sides will be more than welcome. 3pm kick off for both games.
