Goole RUFC’s first team rounded off their pre-season preparations in style with a convincing 61–12 victory over near neighbours Beverley at Westfield Banks. With the 2026/27 season getting underway in earnest on Saturday 26 September, the fixture provided Goole with their final opportunity to test themselves before the competitive action begins.

Beverley started brightly, pressing the Goole defence well during the opening 15 minutes and making the hosts work hard. Goole gradually grew into the game, however, and began to gain the ascendancy as they settled into their rhythm.
Once Goole found their attacking momentum, they proved difficult for Beverley to contain, running in nine tries during an impressive attacking display.
Charlie Kirk led the scoring with an excellent hat-trick, while Will Townend and Man of the Match James Malcolmson both crossed for two tries apiece. Matty Lill and late arrival Fenton also added their names to the scoresheet.
The Goole points were completed by a strong kicking performance, with Rhys Moore converting five tries and Andy Barrass adding a further three, contributing to the final score of 61–12.
The match was an ideal final run-out for the squad, providing valuable game time and an opportunity to work through combinations and sharpen up ahead of the opening league fixture. There were plenty of positives for Goole to take from the performance, particularly the attacking intent and ability to turn pressure into points. Attention now turns firmly to the 2026/27 campaign, with the competitive season beginning on Saturday 26 September.
