With the monsoons continuing the away fixture at Bantingham Park was switched to West Field as both teams were desperate for match time. A work force was dispatched on Saturday morning to recover the pitch to playable standards and the weather, for once, respected the hard work and didn’t send anymore wet stuff until the game was over.

With good player numbers Goole could afford to make up the Ionians shortfall in numbers Oliver, Jack and Ross swapping colours for the first half.

Goole took the initiative from the first whistle; a deep kick off and quick follow-up put pressure on the Ionians line. A line clearing kick was charged down by Captain Peter who was the first to react and sprinted over for a touchdown inside the first 2 minutes. Extras added by Joseph.

The first half was, for the majority, played in the Ionians half of the pitch with relentless Goole pressure leading to tries from Joseph (x2), Milosz and Kieran. The response from Ionians was a try from Jack who went over in the corner.

Half time: Goole U15’s 33 – 5 Ionians U15’s

Oliver, Jack and Ross exchanged places in the Ionians line-up with Jay, Milosz and Liam.

The second half was much the same as the first with Goole dominating the game. Jack making an attempt to score for both teams was caught wide on the I’s 22 but fast hands from Brodie kept the pressure on Ionians and he was in the right place to finish off the move. Extras added by Joseph.

Ionians, to their credit, regrouped and helped themselves to a converted try. But Goole responded with 2 further tries from Kieran and Joseph.

The final try of the day was a consolation try for Ionians who went over in the corner.

Further notable performances came from Caden playing scrum half, utility man Denvor and Alex who’s cover tackles are proving a great insurance snuffing out the opposition breakaways.

So many pleasing areas from this weekend from the efforts of workforce on Saturday morning, the constant shuffling of the team with some players playing several different positions to ensure no player spent longer than 10 minutes off the pitch, and 6 different try scorers (1 for Ionians) - A true team effort from all.

Special thanks to the referee who stepped-up at short notice and Oliver, Jack, Ross, Jay, Milosz and Liam for their time playing for Ionians.

Tries:
Peter, Joseph 3, Milosz, Kieran 2, Brodie (Jack for Ionians)

Conversions:
Joseph 6,
