Goole U8’s 7 – Selby U8’s 6

Edward Crothers opened the game with a strong run to the line but Selby tagged and the ball went into touch. This enabled the home team to make the first score. Ben Hatton, the “tagging machine”, rose to the bait and equalised for Goole. Selby then lost possession and with strong passing skills, Brook Dimmack to Lucas Walton who swiftly ran to the line to score. Selby clawed one back and James Kendra, Jake Rawlings, Joe Green and Luke Brigham made a great attacking line and passed to Walton who attempted a try, but ended up in touch. Just before the half time whistle, Selby scored one more.

Selby lost the ball and it went into touch. Goole piled on the pressure with Frankie Read passing to Josh Priestley; who scored a confident try. With the Under 8’s displaying a great defence and with accurate tagging by Sam Wood, Woody Butler and James Gibson, the whistle was blown to mark the minute silence for Remembrance Sunday. As soon as the match continued, Priestley made a magnificent run and scored once more. Read mirrored Priestley’s run with some speed and scored too. Cole Barker tried to make a break for the line, but accurately passed to Priestley who scored his hat trick. Brigham was back onto the pitch and took Goole into the lead, finishing this tight match with a 7 – 6 lead.

Goole U8’s 5 – Selby U8’s 9

Kendra opened the second match by confidently tagging the opposition, however, Selby had upped their game and scored 4 consecutive tries. Green weaved in and out of Selby and passed to Hatton, who scored a cracking try. Brigham then swiftly put the ball over the try line and scored another. After breaking Selby’s 6 tags, Wood to Read to Priestley to score one more. Selby then clawed one back and just before the first half, Priestley scored another, taking the half time score to 4 – 7 to Selby.

The second half of the match saw great defence work from both teams. Barker ran his socks off and passed to Priestley who scored. Crothers made great thoughtful passes to his team mates and Gibson, Walton and Dimmack displayed excellent tagging skills, but Selby made an accelerated run and scored two more tries before the final whistle.
