Teams from Lincolnshire and across Yorkshire descended on Sandal Rugby Union Football Club on a bright and clear April Sunday to play in a competitive rugby festival based on a 10-man format. The day delivered an outstanding spectacle of rugby on a beautiful spring day.
Goole played 5 teams across the day, with the 10’s format meaning only “tries” being awarded as a score, in a very fast moving and dynamic format. 5-man scrums and short lineouts, with a total of 15 hectic and high paced games on a slightly reduced pitch size meant expansive, fast flowing and attacking rugby that was a joy for the large crowds.
Some very creative and exciting attacking play, saw several top-quality tries being scored, combined with determined and strong defense almost delivering top spot for the Goole youngsters, but they were pipped in 2 of their games by just a single score by Beverley and Old Rishworthians, finally taking a very strong 3rd place in their age group.
