Goole RUFC is proud to announce the completion of a very special addition to the clubhouse at Westfield Banks: a new spectator balcony, installed in loving memory of one of the most dedicated and influential figures in the club's history, Hugh Walton.

Hugh passed away in 2022, leaving behind a legacy that is woven into the very fabric of this club. He served as Club President from 1984 until his death — an extraordinary tenure of nearly four decades during which he gave his time, his energy, and his unwavering support to Goole RUFC through good seasons and difficult ones alike. For almost sixty years Hugh was a constant presence at Murham Avenue and Westfield Banks, and it is entirely fitting that his name will now be permanently associated with a place where so many future generations will gather to watch the game he loved.

The balcony, which provides elevated viewing over the first team pitch, was funded by a generous donation from the Walton family — a deeply thoughtful and heartfelt gesture that reflects the close bond Hugh and his family share with the club. H. Walton Ltd, the Goole-based animal feedstuffs business that has been a cornerstone of the local agricultural community for over a century, has long been associated with Goole RUFC as a club sponsor, and that connection made this tribute all the more meaningful.

The new balcony not only enhances the match day experience for supporters but stands as a permanent reminder of what one person's commitment to a community club can mean. Every time members, players, and visitors step out onto that balcony to take in a match at Westfield Banks, they will do so in Hugh's memory.

The club would like to express its deepest gratitude to the Walton family for this extraordinarily generous gift. Hugh is greatly missed, but in giving us this lasting tribute to him, his family has ensured that his presence at Westfield Banks endures.
