Another game with the result in doubt till the last moments, but Goole find the way to win again

Yet another changed starting line up & yet another victory for this enigmatic but entertaining Goole side.
Starting as early as the 2nd minute, via a break & pass by No 8 Chantry, for back row Rob Shand to score: And finished in the 4th minute of injury time courtesy of a try by M.O.M. Chantry, leaving the home side shell shocked & wondering how they ended up losing.
Well the answer was the guts, determination & sheer bloody mindedness of a fit & ferocious Goole squad. Even allowing for a somewhat patchy display, which still requires attention, as they allowed yet another team chances, that shouldn’t have occurred. On the other hand 5 tries & 4 excellent conversions is only to be admired.
The try fest started within 2 mins of the KO, courtesy of Shand, playing his first game of this season in the backrow. Captain Moore converting a difficult kick. From the re-start Yarnbury fought back with some probing forays into Goole’s ‘22’ but with Goole under pressure they weathered the storm, particularly from scum half Marwood & No 10 Moore who were both on hand to clear their lines.
It took the home side until the 17th min to reply, with Goole down to 14 men following a yellow card for Morris. The home side taking advantage of the extra player to provide an opening out wide for their fist score. With Morris still off the field, they took further advantage, via some excellent interplay to again touch down in the corner. Taking the lead for the first time at 10-7.
But back to a full compliment Goole struck again after 33mins when a line out saw Jamie Lamb taken out in the air, resulting in a yellow card to the home offender. A second kick to touch gave Goole another chance, & when the ball was won it was quickly out to the backs, for Binns to score out wide. Moore’s kick again spot on. Not finished yet Goole again pressed hard & well into injury time produced a fantastic kick by Moore, & 6 phases later Jamie Shand ran in unopposed to the left of the posts, with Moore again on hand with the conversion, to end the half 21-10 in front.
All watching expected a massive reaction from Yarnbury in the opening exchanges, but whatever was discussed during the break, it definitely had an effect, as the visitors pushed Yarnbury back into their own ‘22’, for the next 9 mins, with firstly a try disallowed, then a penalty try awarded for the home sides persistent offending, which improved their score to 28-10.
Now came the onslaught from Yarnbury, & for the next 15 mins they battered the Goole try line, who heroically managed to hold back wave after wave of attack. But, on the 63rd min the inevitable happened when they finally touched down in the corner to reduce the lead to 13 points.
Six minutes later came another home score, again in the right corner, to bring them within 8 point of Goole @ 28-20. Further pressure by them again paid dividend on the 77th min, this time under the posts, for the home stand off to land his only kick of the game. & bring the score to 28-27 to Goole.
This was now backs firmly to the wall, as the much bigger Yarnbury side battered again at Goole’s line. However, with the game well into injury time Goole’s Moore launched a massive kick out of defence getting Goole into the home sides half, but only to see the home side awarded a scrum on their own ‘22’. Having been on top at the scrum for most of the game, it was no surprise to see their No 8 pick up at the base to drive forward. What was a surprise for him though, was the sudden arrival of MOM Chantry. Hitting the opponent head on, taking him to ground, then ripping the ball from him to sprint 15 metres to the line for the decisive score, converted again by Moore. With minutes left Goole coolly handled the re-start, maintaining possession & finally kicking to touch to end the game.
Another day at the office for anyone who follows Goole. Action throughout. Moments when you feared the worst, & a dramatic finale seeing them seal victory, with 5 tries, 4 conversions, & another bonus point to go with this impressive start.
To add to that long-term injured prop Ryan Lamb returned to the starting line-up, allowing brother Jamie to return to his preferred position in the 2nd row, & debutant Neil Corry playing his very first game for Goole 1sts acquitting himself well and adding to the group, to provide much needed back up to the front row.
So, to next week, when Goole are at home to bottom side Ripon. Which, on paper, should provide another win for Goole. But equally could be a large banana skin for them to slip on.
Fingers crossed for another game to celebrate for the Goole supporters, in this superb start to the 2018/19 campaign
