Impoving Well

Goole U10’s 10 -  Doncaster U10’s –10 Goole’s U10’s showed a marked improvement over last week despite having one key player still missing through injury, and the driving wind and rain. Doncaster made good ground to start with and opened the scoring early in the half but Goole pressured and came close to levelling the score on a number of occasions with good runs from Oscar Marshall and Alfie Walker into Doncasters half. Fierce rucking from Anna King backed up by Ethan Kenning and Ben Kama kept possession and the partnership of Harris McDonald as scrum half and Harry Goodall back from illness harassed Doncaster round the rucks to steal the ball and keep Doncaster under pressure until the end of the first half. The pressure paid off early in the second half as Goodall scored to draw level, and then a knock-on from Doncaster returned possession to Goole and despite good tackling from Doncaster Goole kept possession through several phases of play to get Sam Bland within driving distance of the line to put Goole ahead. Doncaster didn’t give up though, and a missed tackle on the wing allowed them to draw level in the closing minutes.Scorers – Goodall – 1, Bland -1In the following game against Driffield, Goole again dominated in the rucks and Ben Whiteley impressed on the wing helping Sam Bland and Ben Kama to tries for a 10-5 win.Meanwhile Goole’s development squad  were also playing. The first match against Driffield was very close with Goole dominating in the scrums and challenging Driff at the breakdown. There were strong runs by Ben Otter & Oliver Gibson resulting in constant pressure on the Driffield line. Driffield broke away in the second  half taking an opportunistic try against the run of play. The second  match also started close with Alfie Noon and Ben Smith getting close to the Donc try line. Good defensive cover in the first half by Tom Williamson & Alex Pickering prevented Doncaster from crossing the line. Reduced to 8 men in the second half  Goole were stretched and allowed Doncaster to take advantage by scoring four  tries in quick succession in the last three minutes of the game.Scorers – Goodall – 1, Bland –2, Kama - 1Man of the match – Harry Goodall, Oscar MarshallMost Improved – Alex Pickering, Alfie Noon
